IEA: Interscholastic Equestrian Association
Sandstone Stables is home to the Suddenlea Sandstone IEA team, which is an ideal opportunity for middle and high school students who wish to prepare for college riding in the IHSA. In addition to lessons taught by coaches Sandy Styzle (of Sandstone Stables) and Yvonne Abel (of Sudden Lea), our team competes throughout the year in several levels. Riders pull horses from a pool of mounts and compete on whichever horse they draw. These competitions have a fun atmosphere, but also teach juniors how to get on an new, unknown horse and ride with confidence and accuracy.
Clinics and Events
If you do not wish to horse show, but you want more learning opportunities outside of regular lessons, we attend and sponsor a variety of clinics year round with "A-circuit" trainers. In addition, Sandstone conducts "fun days" throughout the year for kids and adults. These are very relaxed competitions among friends that teach skills such as riding an unfamiliar horse, managing ground obstacles, riding in pairs, and of course, riding to music!
